Daniil Medvedev enters the second round of the 2026 US Open as the clear favorite against wildcard Sebastian Gorzny after a straight-sets win over Hugo Gaston. The seventh seed and 2021 champion has shown improved serving and baseline consistency on hard courts despite inconsistent summer results, while Gorzny, a 22-year-old American ranked near No. 760 with limited ATP experience, earned his main-draw spot via the collegiate wildcard playoff. Gorzny’s recent form includes early losses in Winston-Salem and lower-level events, underscoring the steep experience gap in best-of-five sets. Medvedev’s prior US Open success and superior ranking position him strongly, though Gorzny’s youth and home support create limited upset potential if the veteran’s level dips.
