**Olivia Rodrigo’s “the cure” holds the strongest market-implied odds at 41.5% in the 2026 VMA Best Alternative category, reflecting her dominant streaming performance, critical acclaim for the goth-tinged single and its visually striking hospital-set video, plus recent high-profile exposure including a Grammy Museum exhibition and collaborations tying into the Cure’s legacy.** The remaining six nominees—Twenty One Pilots’ “Drag Path” (18.5%), Noah Kahan’s “The Great Divide” (15.5%), Sombr’s “Homewrecker” (15.0%), MGK & Fred Durst’s “Fix Ur Face” (8.5%), Tame Impala’s “Dracula” (5.5%), and Geese’s “Taxes” (3.4%)—split the balance, underscoring a fragmented field where established alt acts compete against rising crossover appeal. Nominations were announced August 18, with fan voting closing September 25 ahead of the September 27 ceremony; historical VMA patterns favor artists with broad cultural momentum and video impact, though late shifts in public sentiment or performance buzz could still alter outcomes in this closely contested race.
