The two NFC North clubs enter 2026 as closely matched contenders, with projections placing the Lions near 10 wins and the Bears around 9.5, fueling trader consensus that a season series split is the likeliest result. Detroit’s retooled offensive line, established core of Jared Goff, Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown, and favorable schedule support a modest edge in simulations, while Chicago counters with Caleb Williams entering his third season under Ben Johnson and a top-tier offense that captured the division in 2025. Early injury concerns for Bears running backs and several defensive contributors add uncertainty, but the matchup remains tight on paper. The Thanksgiving home game for Detroit and the Week 17 road contest in Chicago further balance the equation, keeping the probability of each side sweeping low relative to a 1-1 outcome.
