Trump's repeated expressions of interest in reengaging with Kim Jong Un, including recent outreach and comments on positive responses from Pyongyang, have sustained speculation about possible summits. However, these discussions center on meetings in third locations such as the DMZ or neutral venues rather than a visit by the North Korean leader to US territory. North Korea maintains no formal diplomatic relations with the United States, conditions any dialogue on shifts in US policy regarding sanctions and nuclear recognition, and has not signaled willingness for Kim to travel to Washington or other American sites. Limited time remaining in 2026, combined with ongoing missile activity, alliance frictions with South Korea, and North Korea's deepening ties to China and Russia, reinforce trader consensus against a US visit. A late-year diplomatic pivot or invitation acceptance could still alter the outcome before year-end.
