Jonny Clayton enters the opening round of the 2026 New Zealand Darts Masters as the clear favorite against home qualifier Haupai Puha, with market pricing reflecting the Welshman's established PDC pedigree. Clayton, currently ranked around fifth in the world, brings recent consistency from the 2025/26 World Championship (quarterfinal appearance) and Premier League success, including a strong night win despite earlier ankle issues. His superior three-dart averages, checkout finishing, and experience in World Series events create a sizable edge in a best-of format. Puha, a New Zealand representative with occasional upsets against top players (notably a 2022 Queensland Masters win over Clayton), offers home-soil motivation and crowd support but lacks recent deep runs against elite opposition, as shown by his first-round exit at the 2026 World Championship.
