The Chicago Cubs enter this three-game road series against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park with a 69-50 record and strong NL Central standing, fresh off a solid August stretch that included wins over the Dodgers and Royals. The Nationals sit at 59-61, fourth in the NL East, with limited playoff relevance. Key absences shape the matchup, notably Nationals outfielder James Wood on the 10-day injured list with an oblique strain after posting 30 home runs. Cubs pitching and offensive depth provide advantages in recent form and roster health, though both clubs carry some bullpen injuries. The series offers the Cubs an opportunity to build on momentum while testing the Nationals' ability to compete without their top power threat.
