Grigor Dimitrov enters the 2026 US Open first-round matchup against Alexei Popyrin as the consensus favorite, with trader pricing reflecting his edge in recent hard-court efficiency metrics and pressure-point performance. The Bulgarian, ranked around 137, advanced through qualifying with straight-sets wins before a walkover, building momentum after a partial recovery from prior injuries. Popyrin, ranked near 130 and on a wildcard, carries a sub-.400 win rate in 2026 amid mental health challenges and early exits on the North American swing. Their head-to-head stands at 2-2 on hard courts, but models highlight Dimitrov’s steadier serve and tiebreak results as key differentiators in what projects as a competitive best-of-five on outdoor hard. Fitness and recent form remain central variables for both.
