The Odyssey stands as the clear frontrunner for the most nominations at the 99th Academy Awards, fueled by Christopher Nolan’s July 2026 Academy screenings that generated widespread voter enthusiasm for its technical ambition, Imax-shot visuals, and performances from Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway. Early industry predictions highlight its potential to challenge or exceed historical nomination records across directing, picture, acting, and craft categories, backed by strong box office and critical consensus. Dune: Messiah, slated for a late 2026 release, and Project Hail Mary, an earlier-year contender, trail significantly as traders weigh their respective tech-category strength and mixed precursor signals against The Odyssey’s momentum. Upcoming fall festivals, guild nominations, and final release reactions remain key swing factors in this fluid race.
