Cristina Bucsa enters this US Open second-round matchup as the clear favorite against qualifier Himeno Sakatsume, holding the WTA No. 40 ranking and recent hard-court momentum after defeating 28th seed Sara Bejlek in three sets on August 31. The Spanish veteran brings major experience, including a fourth-round run at the 2025 US Open, and a 9-15 record in 2026 that includes solid wins over players like Anna Bondar. Sakatsume, ranked No. 144 and making her main-draw debut after strong qualifying performances (including 20 winners in her final-round win), faces a significant step up in competition on the outdoor hard courts. Bucsa's edge in ranking, serve consistency, and Grand Slam pedigree shapes trader consensus, though Sakatsume's aggressive baseline play and break-point conversion could test the favorite in an extended rally-heavy contest.
