Sam Liccardo, the Democratic incumbent in California's 16th Congressional District, won the June 2, 2026, top-two primary with approximately 73% of the vote and advanced to the November general election. The two Republican candidates, Peter Soule and Kevin Johnson, split the remaining support at roughly 12% and 11%, respectively, while the no-party-preference candidate received under 4%. California's nonpartisan primary system advances the top two vote-getters regardless of party affiliation, and early returns confirmed Liccardo's commanding position shortly after polls closed. No further primary-stage developments are scheduled.
