The Liga FPD's 2026 campaign remains wide open for the runner-up spot, with early standings after eight rounds showing Deportivo Saprissa atop the table on 18 points while Cartaginés, Inter de San Carlos, San Carlos, Sporting San José, and Alajuelense sit within striking distance on 11–15 points. Herediano's sluggish start has not deterred traders, reflecting the club's proven playoff pedigree and historical strength in the second half of the split-season format. Multiple clubs share similar goal differentials and recent form patterns, while the absence of a runaway favorite keeps implied probabilities tightly clustered. Schedule congestion, home/away splits, and potential late surges from mid-table sides continue to sustain this parity through the regular season and playoffs.
