Casper Ruud enters the second round of the 2026 National Bank Open on outdoor hard courts as the clear favorite against Juan Manuel Cerundolo, reflecting his higher ranking near No. 14 and stronger overall 2026 results that include a Masters 1000 final appearance. The pair has split recent clay meetings with Cerundolo prevailing in both, including a three-set upset in Gstaad this summer, but the hard-court surface and Ruud’s recent straight-sets win over Jaime Faria in Montreal tilt momentum toward the Norwegian. Cerundolo, ranked around No. 50 with a middling 13-14 record, will need to leverage left-handed variety and baseline consistency to challenge, though limited hard-court success this season remains a key constraint.
