Fomin, the third seed and higher-ranked player at No. 305, faces qualifier Samrej (No. 406) in the Astana Challenger on hard courts. The Uzbek holds a career-high ranking of 290 and benefits from regional familiarity in Central Asia, while the Thai player peaked at 346 last year. Recent form shows Fomin with mixed Challenger results across surfaces, including losses in July events, whereas Samrej has limited high-level experience outside lower-tier events. As a seeded player in a Challenger 50 draw, Fomin enters with an implied edge based on ranking and recent consistency on hard courts, though both 25-year-olds remain outside the top 300 and outcomes can shift with serving or early-match momentum.
