Jacob Fearnley enters the US Open qualifying match against Roberto Carballes Baena as the higher-ranked player (ATP 107) on outdoor hard courts, where the younger Brit has shown stronger recent results across surfaces compared to the Spaniard’s clay-court focus. Fearnley leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a straight-sets win on clay in Barcelona 2025. Carballes Baena, ranked around 190 and aged 33, has posted limited 2026 results with early exits in several events. Recent form favors Fearnley’s consistency in ATP-level matches, though qualifying draws remain unpredictable due to variable conditions and potential fatigue from the schedule. The hard-court setting and ranking gap represent the primary factors shaping trader views on this encounter.
