Ohio State enters the 2026 season with the highest implied probability at 18% among contenders for the top-ranked NCAA Football defense, reflecting its depth along the front and secondary after key departures. Georgia, Oregon, Indiana, and Texas Tech sit closely behind at 9.5–13.5%, supported by returning starters, new coordinator impacts, and strong 2025 unit metrics in yards and points allowed. Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Miami, and others round out a crowded field where roster talent, scheme continuity, and spring developments create comparable expectations. This parity among Power conference programs with proven defensive identities keeps the race competitive heading into fall camp.
